De amerikanska vapenlobbyisterna NRA (National Rifle Association) vill att karaktärerna i #The Sims 3 ska ha tillgång till vapen. Organisationens ordförande John C. Sigler säger i ett pressmeddelande att många ungdomar spelar The Sims-serien, vilket gör spelet till ett utmärkt verktyg för att de ska lära sig hantera vapen på ett vettigt sätt.

Many video games of today contains firearms, but almost none of them take the the risks into account. Video games provide an excellent opportunity to learn our beloved children how to operate firearms in a safe way. NRA therefore think that Maxis and Electronic Arts should include small firearms in the video game The Sims 3. All Americans - young and old - have the right to defend themselves!
