1988 släppte Mike Pondsmith papper och penna-rollspelet Cyberpunk. Men det är alltså först nu det blir ett tv- och datorspel, i form av CD Projekts Cyberpunk 2077. Kan det till och med hitta till vita duken? Pondsmith säger i alla fall att chansen aldrig varit större, tack vare Keanu Reeves.
I can’t really say anything on movie rights. But with Keanu Reeves being tied up in things, it’s become much more of a possibility.
Det berättar Pondsmith för VGC, och i samma intervju berättar han att Cyberpunk, enligt honom hittat en "sweet spot" av berättande och rafflande action. Pondsmith tillägger dock att man ska ha i åtanke att varje medium kommer med olika styrkor som måste respekteras. Han resonerar:
What I do with tabletop is very different from what I would do in a video game. Having to go between the two of them now, I can see that there are things that are easy to do in tabletop that I would never try to do in video games, but there are things in video games that have much higher impact than I’ll ever have in tabletop. And that will change if we ever do a film for this thing. What I expect to see will be different.
Cyberpunk 2077 släpps 16 april och det återstår att se vad nästa steg blir därefter. Expansion? Film? Något annat? Oavsett vad det blir hoppas vi såklart att det blir "breathtaking".
