Igår avslöjades releasedatumet för World of Warcraft: Classic; 27 augusti är det dags att raida som om det vore 2005 igen. Men mer vill ha mer, och i en intervju med Forbes antyder Blizzard-chefen J. Allen Brack att även The Burning Crusade (2007) och Wrath of the Lich King (2008) kan få dedikerade servrar. Men för att det ska bli så krävs först "galna framgångar" för WoW: Classic.
På frågan om detta är ett enstaka kärleksbrev till fansen svarar Brack:
It’s a great question, and I honestly have no way to answer it. Because there is not a realistic or reasonable way that anyone has done, that I have found, to sort of size, what is this thing? How many people are actually going to play it? I think there’s going to be a lot of interest on day one. And then what is that level of sustained, 30-days-after interest?
Det Blizzard gör med WoW: Classic saknar motstycke i spelhistorien. Remakes, remasters och nysläpp är vardagsmat, men att släppa vaniljservrar till ett mmo som lever och frodas är en annan slags best. Brack har inget svar på om den här historien kan återupprepas, och för att hitta något sådant får vi först invänta 27 augusti och tiden därefter. Blizzard har i alla fall...
...now have the ability to do it in a way that we never did before. It’s something that now has become possible. Whether or not we will do it, I think will really depend on the fans’ interest and the fans’ reaction.
